The S55 turbo engine from the BMW M2C, M3 and M4 F8x uses a water-cooled intercooler instead of a "normal" air-cooled intercooler. The standard top-mounted intercooler has a tube & fin core with clamped plastic end tanks. This design has its drawbacks as it is prone to cracking and allowing coolant to enter the engine or boost pressure leaking from the tank gaskets.
The coolant in this system has its own separate cooling circuit, which consists of two coolers connected in parallel and a pump. The larger of these two coolers connected in parallel is positioned at the front in the middle cooling package, the second smaller one is in front of the right wheel arch.
These vehicles are equipped with plastic intercooling tubes on both the hot and cold sides. These pipes are a weak link in any tuned car or in some cases even in a standard tuning. The OE plastic pipes often break, leaving you with a boost pressure leak.
We designed upgrades for all of these parts by 3D scanning and 3D modeling in the scanned environment. We did CFD simulations on most parts and lots of testing to make sure we were delivering the best performance upgrade!
You can choose between three different options for this product.
1. Charge air cooler and both charge air pipe kits
2. Intercooler and both coolers for intercooler system
3. Intercooler, both intercooler pipes and both radiators for the intercooler system
Our performance intercooler gives your engine more power by reducing both the intake air temperature and the pressure drop! It is a rod and plate unit with 3D free-form end tanks that are TIG-welded to the core. It has a core volume that is 85% larger than the standard charge air cooler and outperforms the standard unit in terms of both airflow and cooling efficiency. 16% better flow and 9 ° C lower IAT, so with both better flow and lower IAT this is a real upgrade!
Our coolers for the charge air cooling circuit lower the water temperature in the charge air cooling system circuit. This equates to a lower intake air temperature, which results in both more power and more consistent performance. We achieve this through an enlarged cooling surface, an increased core thickness and well-assembled cores made of multi-channel pipes!
Our intercooler piping, both the turbocharger to the intercooler and the intercooler to the throttle, are designed to increase durability while improving airflow. Improving both reliability and airflow is not easy because the stock pipes have good flow through them. With our software flow simulation and physical flow testing skills, we are sure to make improvements, which is more than most suppliers of this type of pipe can tell!
